Hirschler Fleischer is pleased to announce that Courtney Paulk has been elected president of the firm’s Board of Directors, and Andrew Lohmann has been elected executive vice president, effective September 24. Paulk and Lohmann succeed James L. Weinberg and Michael H. Terry, respectively. Weinberg and Terry will continue to serve as members of the Board until February 1, 2019. Partners Jeffrey P. Geiger and Roderick W. Simmons will join the Board as of February 1.
“This is a logical point in our leadership to pass the baton to the next generation,” said Weinberg. “Having served on the Board for six-and-a-half years and made numerous contributions to the firm throughout her career, Courtney was a natural fit for this leadership role.”
“We are incredibly grateful for Jim’s and Mike’s contributions to the firm and its clients over the past 15 years,” said Paulk. “Through their leadership, we have established ourselves as a leading middle market law firm in the Mid-Atlantic with numerous top-ranked practices and lawyers,” added Paulk. “I am excited to lead the firm in its next chapter by adding depth and breadth to our services, expanding our footprint and continuing to recruit top talent to serve our clients.”
In addition to serving on the Board, Paulk currently chairs Hirschler’s litigation section and co-chairs the Construction practice.
Paulk will continue to serve her clients, advising public and private owners, developers, contractors and subcontractors on a broad range of business matters and disputes, including the negotiation and drafting of contracts, early dispute avoidance and dispute resolution.
Outside of the courtroom, Paulk is well-known for her ultra-distance open water swimming feats, many of which are accomplished in support of charitable organizations. Notably, she is one of only 200 people to complete the Triple Crown of Open-Water Swimming, having swum across the 21-mile English Channel, 20-mile Catalina Channel and the 28.5-mile circumference of Manhattan Island. She is only the fifth person to complete the Triple Crown twice.
Paulk earned her undergraduate degree from Mary Washington College and her law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law.
Lohmann has served on the firm’s Board of Directors for three years. He is chair of the firm's business section and co-chair of the Mergers & Acquisitions practice. His practice focuses principally on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, general corporate and commercial law, employment law, capital transactions and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Weinberg and Terry are stepping back into full-time legal practice. Weinberg counsels clients in securities matters, merger and acquisition transactions, capital funding for middle-market business and legal advice to closely held entities. Terry advises developers, property owners and tenants in connection with the acquisition, development, financing and leasing of income producing property and raw land for office complexes, corporate headquarters, planned unit developments and retail projects.
Effective September 24, Weinberg became chairman of the Board, and former chairman Jim Theobald became chairman emeritus. The remainder of the Board, which includes S. Brian Farmer, John F. McManus, Charles H. Rothenberg and Wayne G. Travell, remains unchanged.
