Hirschler Fleischer is pleased to announce that its chairman, James W. Theobald, was named among Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s 2014 class of “Leaders in the Law.” In its ninth year, the “Leaders in the Law” program recognizes lawyers across the state who set the standard for the legal profession. Theobald will be honored for his leadership and contributions to the Virginia business and legal communities on October 23 at a reception at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond.
“Jim has built a reputation for helping everyone find common ground: whether it’s finding locations for national big-box retailers, or advising Richmond area leaders on land use policies, he is usually the man-in-the-middle, bringing all sides together,” said James L. Weinberg, president of Hirschler Fleischer. “We have long-valued his contributions to our firm, and are proud to share the story of his impact with Virginia Lawyers Weekly and its readers.”
Theobald served as president of Hirschler Fleischer from 1992 to 2004 and has served as chairman since 2004. He is a “developer’s lawyer,” focusing his practice on high-profile and high-stakes commercial real estate matters. He has been involved in some of the largest projects in the region, bringing his creativity and advocacy to each and every matter. His ability to forge a consensus among groups of disparate interests has earned him a reputation as one of the area’s top land use attorneys.
Theobald served as president of Richmond Goodwill Industries, and has actively contributed his time and leadership to various civic organizations throughout the state, including the local Veterans Administration hospital. He is a member of the Richmond Bar Association, the Home Builders Association of Richmond and the Richmond Real Estate Group. On the state and national level, he is a member of the Virginia State Bar, American Bar Association and serves as a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
In addition to this Virginia Lawyers Weekly honor, he holds a number of distinctions from his peers for his excellence in client service, including recognition among Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, Martindale-Hubbell and Virginia Super Lawyers, among others.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary, and his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
